Home Work: Our Favorite Home Office Inspiration & Tips
With much of the American (and global) workforce now working remotely, more and more people are starting to consider creating or updating a home office. And while we can't help you with the many new "coworkers" you may have just acquired, we have more than enough home office inspiration and tips to go around. Keep scrolling!
1. GET ORGANIZED
We're firm believers that a cluttered desk leads to a cluttered mind. Keep your focus (and your sanity) by staying on top of your home office organization. Corral items you use daily in pretty trays, holders, and bins, and stow everything else out of sight. SHOP STRIKE
2. CARVE OUT A NOOK
You don't need a dedicated room to create a home office. An empty corner, a cozy nook, an unused closet—anywhere that has a flat working surface and good lighting can become a work station. SHOP ANDANZA
3. FIND THE BEST VIEW
If possible, set up your new home office somewhere with at least one window. Most of us will be spending at least 8 hours a day here, and a glimpse of nature and the warm sun does wonders for your mental health. SHOP DIAMONDS
4. KEEP DISTRACTIONS AT BAY
Less is more when it comes to working from home. Keep your work area distraction-free to help you focus when it's time to start your day. An uncluttered office also leaves more room for all that creative thinking you're doing. SHOP SNOW
5. THINK MULTI-PURPOSE
No home office? No problem! Mudrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens are all built for double duty and make perfect places to create a home work station. After working hours, these spaces are great for doing homework, paying bills, and catching up online. SHOP SERENGETI
6. GET COMFY
Nothing will stop your productivity faster than an uncomfortable working environment. Whether you have a dedicated home office or a small work nook, make sure you keep it comfortable with the right chair, a soft rug underfoot, and an ergonomic computer set-up. SHOP DIAMANTE
7. LIGHT IT RIGHT
Lighting is so important as you plan your home office, and the same rules apply here as they do for any space: make sure you have an overhead fixture for general lighting, task lighting for focused work, and then accent lighting to make the space feel special. SHOP SERENGETI
8. BRING THE OUTDOORS IN
Being stuck inside most of the day doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself of nature. Set up shop near glass doors that you can open on warm days; surround yourself with beautiful greenery; and let the sunlight and the breeze in through open windows. SHOP KNOTS
9. BE SMART ABOUT STORAGE
Storage is a vital part of any functional office, but functionality doesn't mean it can't also be pretty. If you're starting from scratch, consider sleek built-ins that hide away printers, files, cables, and cords. Otherwise, bring in some pretty baskets, bins, and shelving that stores your work items and look chic while doing it. SHOP ARCADE
10. MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Most importantly, your home office should make you feel good. Consider it an extension of the rest of your home and decorate accordingly. But since it's a space that you will be spending the most time in, don't be afraid to think big and throw caution to the wind. Wallpaper on the ceiling, anyone? SHOP FOREST FLOOR
